Description
A delightful and addictive treat made with saltine crackers, buttery caramel, and rich chocolate, perfect for the holiday season.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 sleeve (about 40) saltine crackers
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
- ½ cup chopped pecans, sprinkles, or festive toppings (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with foil or parchment and coat lightly with nonstick spray.
- Arrange the crackers in a single layer on the baking sheet without overlapping.
- Melt butter and brown sugar in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly. Once it reaches a boil, cook for about 3 minutes until thickened.
- Pour the hot caramel mixture evenly over the crackers.
- Bake for 5 minutes until the caramel is bubbling. Watch closely to avoid burning.
- Scatter chocolate chips over the hot caramel and let sit for 2-3 minutes to soften.
- Spread the melted chocolate into an even layer.
- Top with nuts or sprinkles while chocolate is warm.
- Let cool completely, then refrigerate for 1-2 hours until firm.
- Break into pieces and serve.
Notes
For an ultra-smooth chocolate layer, allow the chocolate chips to melt longer before spreading. Avoid using salted butter and ensure your oven is fully preheated.
