- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 pound ground pork
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
- 3 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 12 lasagna noodles
- 2 cups ricotta cheese
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 egg
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef and ground pork, along with the chopped onion, and cook until the meat is browned.
- Add the minced garlic to the skillet, stirring for another minute until fragrant.
- Incorporate the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper. Let the sauce simmer for about 30 minutes.
- While the sauce simmers, cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, 1 cup of mozzarella, grated Parmesan, the egg, and a pinch of salt. Stir until well blended.
- In a baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom. Place a layer of lasagna noodles over the sauce, followed by half of the ricotta mixture and more meat sauce. Repeat the layering process and finish with a final layer of noodles topped with the remaining meat sauce and mozzarella.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes. After that, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbling and golden.
- Allow it to cool for a few minutes before serving to let the layers set.
Notes
Let your meat sauce simmer longer for deeper taste. Don’t skimp on the cheese for a gooey texture everyone loves.
