Description

A heartwarming dish combining layers of rich flavors and comforting textures, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 pound ground pork
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 3 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef and ground pork, along with the chopped onion, and cook until the meat is browned.
  3. Add the minced garlic to the skillet, stirring for another minute until fragrant.
  4. Incorporate the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper. Let the sauce simmer for about 30 minutes.
  5. While the sauce simmers, cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  6. In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, 1 cup of mozzarella, grated Parmesan, the egg, and a pinch of salt. Stir until well blended.
  7. In a baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom. Place a layer of lasagna noodles over the sauce, followed by half of the ricotta mixture and more meat sauce. Repeat the layering process and finish with a final layer of noodles topped with the remaining meat sauce and mozzarella.
  8. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes. After that, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbling and golden.
  9. Allow it to cool for a few minutes before serving to let the layers set.

Notes

Let your meat sauce simmer longer for deeper taste. Don’t skimp on the cheese for a gooey texture everyone loves.
