Description

A comforting casserole with tender sausage, bell peppers, onions, and garlic, enveloped in rich marinara sauce.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound Italian sausage
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 ounces) marinara sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups cooked pasta (optional)
  • Grated Parmesan cheese for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, cook the Italian sausage over medium heat until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add the sliced bell peppers, chopped onion, and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté until the vegetables are tender, roughly 3-4 minutes.
  4. Stir in the marinara sauce and Italian seasoning. Let it simmer for a couple of minutes to meld the flavors.
  5. If using pasta, fold in the cooked pasta until well combined.
  6. Transfer the mixture to a baking dish. Bake for 25-30 minutes, until heated through.
  7. Serve hot, generously topped with grated Parmesan cheese.

Notes

Consider using fresh herbs for added flavor. Letting the casserole sit for a few minutes after baking allows the flavors to meld beautifully.
