Homemade Vanilla French Beignets

Description

Delight in these warm, fluffy beignets with a crispy exterior and a soft, pillowy center, perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine the egg, milk, vanilla extract, and melted butter. Mix until smooth.
  3. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring gently until a soft dough forms.
  4. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and roll it out to about ¼-inch thickness. Slice the dough into squares or rectangles (about 2 inches each).
  5. In a heavy-bottomed pot or deep skillet, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Carefully drop a few pieces of dough into the hot oil, frying for about 1 minute on each side until golden brown.
  7. Remove the beignets from the oil and transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate. Allow them to cool slightly and dust generously with powdered sugar.

Notes

Serve beignets fresh and hot, dusted with powdered sugar. Pair with café au lait or chocolate sauce for dipping.
