Description

A cozy comfort food dish featuring tender cabbage leaves wrapped around seasoned meat and rice, simmered in rich tomato sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large head of cabbage
  • 1 pound ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh herbs like parsley or dill for seasoning

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cabbage by bringing a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove the core from the cabbage and place the head in the water for about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Make the filling by combining the ground meat, cooked rice, chopped onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, and seasonings in a bowl. Mix until evenly distributed.
  3. Assemble the rolls by taking a cabbage leaf, placing a generous dollop of the filling at the base, folding in the sides, and rolling it up tightly.
  4. Cook the rolls in a large baking dish. Spread a bit of tomato sauce on the bottom, place the rolls seam-side down, cover with remaining sauce and foil, and bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 45 minutes.

Notes

Serve with a dollop of sour cream and fresh herbs. Pairs well with crusty bread or a crisp salad.
