Description

This Easy Christmas Black Forest Trifle layers fudgy chocolate cake, silky pudding, ruby cherries, and billowy whipped cream into a stunning, no-fuss holiday centerpiece.

Ingredients

Chocolate base: 1 (9×13-inch) chocolate cake or 24 brownie bites, cubed

Chocolate layer: 4 cups prepared chocolate pudding (instant or homemade), cooled

Cherry layer: 1 (21-oz) can cherry pie filling + 1 cup jarred Morello or thawed frozen cherries, drained

Whipped cream: 3 cups heavy cream, 1/3 cup powdered sugar, 1 tsp vanilla (or 8–12 oz whipped topping)

Optional flavor: 1/2 cup cherry juice mixed with 2 Tbsp kirsch (kirsch optional; use juice only for kid-friendly)

Finish: Dark chocolate curls/shavings and fresh cherries

Instructions

  1. Prep :Cube cake/brownies. Whip cream with powdered sugar and vanilla to soft-medium peaks. Have pudding cool and spoonable.
  2. Soak (optional) : Lightly brush half the cake cubes with cherry juice (with or without kirsch).
  3. Layer 1 : In a clear trifle bowl, add cake cubes in an even layer.
  4. Layer 2 : Spoon a thick layer of chocolate pudding to the edges.
  5. Layer 3 : Add cherry pie filling plus a handful of cherries for real-fruit texture.
  6. Layer 4 : Pipe or spoon whipped cream (pipe around edges for crisp stripes).
  7. Repeat: Build a second set of layers: cake → pudding → cherries → cream.
  8. Finish & Chill : Cover and chill 2–24 hours. Top with chocolate curls and fresh cherries just before serving.

Notes

No-Bake Shortcut: Use store-bought chocolate loaf or brownie bites + instant pudding for a 15-minute assembly.

Stability: For super clean slices, stabilize cream with 1–2 Tbsp mascarpone or a quick gelatin bloom.

Make-Ahead: Assemble up to 24 hours in advance; add garnishes at serving.

Gluten-Free/Dairy-Free: GF cake or brownies; dairy-free pudding and coconut whipped cream.

Serving Tip: Slightly chilled (not icy) gives the best texture.
