Description

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs chicken, cut into pieces
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 23 green chilies, slit
  • 2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 2 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for cooking
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle.
  2. Once fragrant, add the chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic, grated ginger, and slit green chilies. Cook for another minute to combine the flavors.
  4. Next, add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they soften and meld with the onions.
  5. Mix in the coriander powder, turmeric powder, and salt, stirring well to bind the ingredients.
  6. Add the chicken pieces to the pot and coat them evenly with the spice mixture.
  7. Cover the pot and cook on low heat for about 25-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  8. Once the chicken is cooked through, stir in the garam masala for extra aroma and flavor.
  9. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with steamed rice or naan.

Notes

For deeper flavors, marinate the chicken beforehand with spices. Adjust spice levels as needed and always use fresh ingredients for best results.
