Description
A hearty dish that combines tender potatoes, savory steak, and rich cheese, perfect for family dinners or gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 ½ pounds sirloin or ribeye steak
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 ½ pounds Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 small onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup heavy cream
- ½ cup whole milk
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack or provolone cheese
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Arrange half of the thinly sliced potatoes evenly in the baking dish. Lightly sprinkle with salt and pepper. Then, scatter half of the sliced onions and minced garlic over the top. Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, onions, and garlic.
- Whisk together the heavy cream and milk, adding a small pinch of salt and pepper. Pour this mixture evenly over the layered potatoes.
- Cover the dish tightly with foil and bake for 35–40 minutes, or until the potatoes are fork-tender.
- Season the steak with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika. Heat the olive oil in a skillet over high heat and sear the steak for about 3–4 minutes per side for medium-rare. Allow it to rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing it into strips.
- Once the potatoes are tender, remove the foil. Sprinkle mozzarella and Monterey Jack over the potatoes, and arrange the sliced steak on top of the cheese layer. Finish with grated Parmesan.
- Return the dish to the oven, uncovered, and bake for 15–20 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Let the bake rest for about 5 minutes before slicing. Finally, sprinkle fresh parsley over the top for garnish.
Notes
For enhanced flavor, marinate the steak for a few hours with spices. Use a mandoline slicer for uniformly thin potato slices. Mix in some sautéed vegetables for extra nutrition.
